TASC joins the Just Transition Alliance Joint Declaration
The Just Transition Alliance was founded to help ensure that the practice and principles of a Just Transition are at the heart of the national policy response to climate change. Founding members include: Irish Congress of Trade Unions, SIPTU, Fórsa, Friends of the Earth and TASC. We need a Just Transition to protect and create jobs, reduce emissions, enhance living standards and generate new opportunities that will help to build sustainable, resilient communities across the country. The Irish State Post Pandemic
In partnership with FÓRSA, this new report explores what a state fit for purpose to meet the needs of the Irish population can and should look like as we emerge from the pandemic. It examines state capacity and how it might develop to meet the challenges of care, climate changes, and providing for future economic prosperity through higher education reform. Upcoming TASC Report on Land and Housing - May 2022
50 years after the publication of the Kenny Report on land speculation, the Irish housing market is still mired in cycles of boom and bust. Our housing porblems, moreover, show no signs of going away anytime soon.
TASC is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of a major new report on land and housing. The report examines the the nature of housing supply in Ireland, the present and recent history of land speculation, and what land reforms are necessary to ensure a more sustainable housing system. The launch of the report will take place on the morning of April 7th, with details to follow on Eventbrite in the coming days.
Climate action income supplement could alleviate costs of transitioning to carbon zero future
The rise in oil prices and the recent IPCC report, which stresses that we have very little time to mitigate against the worst effects of climate change, underscore the importance of reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, critics of increasing the carbon tax during a period of high inflation pit the climate measure against current economic conditions. Read on here
Advice Northern Ireland and TASC Partnership
On Monday 28th February TASC and Advice NI co-hosted a roundtable ‘Protecting the most vulnerable from the impact of Brexit and Covid-19 – Let’s Talk’, to discuss services and challenges for the vulnerable on both sides of the border on Debt, Migration and Poverty. The ongoing project is being funded through the Community Foundation for Ireland. A public event will follow in late May and details will be published in our next newsletter.
