New Housing Report
Dr Rob Sweeney - former senior economic policy analyst at TASC - co-authored the report, “The impact of cost rental housing on social inclusion and wellbeing: affordability, security and community,” which is the first major piece of research into cost rental housing in Ireland. The research found that nearly two-thirds of respondents (63%) value the long-term stability of Cost Rental housing, with many also attracted by the quality of the homes (60%), the essential need for housing (63%), and the affordability of rent (51%).
Dr Sweeney was also nominated for the Miriam Hederman O’Brien Prize for “Fiscal Rules – Time for a Reboot,” which he wrote with Rosa Canelli, University of Sannio, during his tenure at TASC. On Wednesday, he accepted a nomination award from Minister for Finance Jack Chambers.

Strengthening Irish Democracy Workshop Recap
Last week, TASC hosted a successful workshop, “Strengthening Irish Democracy
in an Era of Democratic Decline.” A diverse group, representing Government, business, civil society organisations, and media, were invited to participate in a discussion with each other regarding the threats to democracy and, collectively consider the actions that can and should be taken to address these, and strengthen democracy.
Eamon Ryan, Minister for Environment, Climate and Communications and Minister for Transport, provided a keynote address assessing the state of democracy in Western countries, post-EU, local, and British elections and prior to the American and Irish national elections.
